It started as a social phenomenon, less than a decade ago. Now with around 700 million subscribers, it is a bustling diverse community which has enabled people to connect on a level never before possible. The growth of personal pages has been astounding. For a "dinosaur" like myself, I have been able to reconnect with former classmates from as much as 38 years into my past! Facebook "fan" pages, which appeared in 2007 gave business owners two opportunities. First, they could now stop violating "terms of service" by creating personal pages to promote their business and second, they could create a fan page through which they could more properly promote their business. Each fan page allowed a business to register their type of business, location, and business description and then provided them with an "info" and "wall" page.
The world grows...
Enter "FBML" and now "iFrames", custom pages that allow the business owner to present an "html" like format to their new and current customers, clients and patients. These pages have grown increasingly sophisticated. iFrameengine is one such tool this author has found useful in creating such pages for his business clients.
Business owners can even create "capture" or "squeeze" pages. These pages provide an "optin box" through which the reader enters their name and email in order to gain access to a "freebie". This can take the form of an e-book, video, access to a report and much more.
Recently even the "optin box" has been improved upon! A new company has produced an optinapp designed to allow the reader to click a button, then approve their email being sent to the business by clicking an "allow" button on a Facebook app and then instantly, the "freebie" is delivered, the business "captures" the readers name and email, but the reader never had to type that information into an "optin box".
I say "brilliant!"
The business is then able to send autoresponder and newsletter messages to the reader who has accepted his offer. This form of marketing is often referred to as "drip marketing" as the business can send messages to the reader promoting his wares and providing value to the reader. If the reader ever tires of the messages and wishes to discontinue the relationship, as per the "canspam" act, each email contains an "opt-out" option clearly detailed at the end of the message.
